The story behind it:
Similar to Batik or Shibori techniques, the "Blue Nankeen" technique (named after the Chinese city of Nanjing) involves covering unbleached or light-colored cotton in specific areas with a protective paste (e.g., wax, starch, rice glue). The fabric is then dipped in an indigo bath, and the paste is washed out after dyeing. This creates white or light-colored patterns on a deep blue background, with clearly defined outlines, usually in floral or geometric designs.
The origins of this technique lie in China; it later spread throughout Southeast Asia.
