The story behind it:
The Chinese city of Jingdezhen was once named by Emperor “Jingde” (Song Dynasty) the “Imperial Production Site” for porcelain. Due to the rich kaolin deposits, porcelain could be produced in high quality. The location on the Yangtze River was also a good prerequisite for the safe transportation of the ceramics to distant Beijing.
The city is considered to be the birthplace of “white gold” and is still the center of the centuries-old tradition of Chinese porcelain production, which can still come up with – mostly blue and white – showpieces.
In Chinese culture, there is only one criterion for differentiating the ceramic masses, namely the firing temperature: a distinction is made between hot-fired and thus harder, and cold-fired ceramic. Earthenware, crockery and stoneware can also be considered porcelain, provided that the sherd produce the clear and bright sound typical of this material when struck.
