Baby wool is the first shearing of the lamb. Usually, this only takes place after the start of summer so that the lambs are protected for as long as possible, and is not done on animals that are younger than 6 months. Baby wool is much finer and softer than the wool of older sheep and feels the same. To preserve the suppleness of the wool, hand washing at cool temperatures is recommended.
