The story behind it :
The Indian designer Shyam Ahuja has succeeded in reviving the traditional Dhurrie weaving and putting the flat-woven carpets on the international stage.
Woven from cotton, wool or jute, they were, in the simplest case, a kind of multi-purpose textile that could be used as floor covering, bedding or even packaging. On the other hand, they could also adorne the palaces of royal families - woven from the finest fibers and refined with gold-wrapped threads.
Shyam Ahuja began modernizing the centuries-old craft in the 1960s and 1970s by developing fresh, contemporary designs that stood out from the usual patterns. Thus, Dhurrie rugs went from being functional floor coverings to being luxurious furnishings for discerning homes.
